What It Means To Play Heart Strong

At the Ethan M. Lindberg Foundation, we believe that sports are more than just games. They are classrooms for life, places where resilience is built, leadership is tested, and strength is forged from the inside out.

That’s why we created the Play Heart Strong program.

Developed in partnership with coaches and leagues, Play Heart Strong is more than a motivational slogan. It is a set of guiding principles designed to help young athletes grow not only in skill, but in character. We partner with businesses and teams to bring this program to players and leagues.

Our program is rooted in these 12 Ways to Play Heart Strong:

1. Work hard and do not complain.

2. Have a goal and ask for help.

3. Show up on time for practices and games.

4. Encourage your teammates.

5. Attitude is everything.

6. Learn from wins and losses.

7. Accept defeat as a teacher and come back stronger.

8. Put in the work. Consistency wins games and reaches goals.

9. Respect coaches, teammates, and yourself.

10. Make good choices on and off the field/court/track/course.

11. Train to be successful at the game of life.

12. Have fun. Be thankful for your healthy body and the privilege of playing.

These principles serve as reminders that being Heart Strong isn’t just about athletic achievement. It is about showing up with integrity, supporting your team, and honoring the game by playing with gratitude and intention.

We are proud to stand alongside coaches shaping the next generation of athletes and leaders. In the end, the most important victories are not measured on a scoreboard. They are the ones that echo in who our players become.
